I am inspired by the many celebrity chefs who have stepped back from seeing food as simply being entertainment, a necessity or a means of making money. They are drawing attention to the vital role food plays in our well-being as individuals as well as society and along the way, are providing many excellent training opportunities for young people.

I believe that in vocational training, we too should be displaying a similar passion and vision which will lead to increased opportunities for worthwhile jobs and careers.

I feel that the cry of education, education, education is casting a long shadow over vocational training and that our new mantra should be training, training, training!

The main role of further education is to support employers and employment and not sleep walk into becoming an extension of secondary schooling or a provision for masking a lack of useful employment opportunities.

We cannot train a person who has not been educated first but I’m here to promote the cause of vocational training!
